Modeling of flows in a high-pressure vapor transport chemical reactor

Prof. Jeff Scroggs

Department of Mathematics North Carolina State University Raleigh, NC 27695

Production of some electronic and optoelectronic materials is accomplished by growing crystals from the gas phase. Simulations of the gasdynamics inside such reactors provides valuable insight, especially for new reactor designs. The simulations involve finite element solution of the coupled gasdynamic equations with physically meaningful parameter sets and boundary conditions. The simulations are one component of a multidisciplinary project involving computational scientists, mathematicians, and materials scientists. The results will be presented in the context of this interactive design process.
