Conference Program

This conference will cover a broad scope of topics in Dynamical Systems, Mathematical Physics, and other areas related to the pioneering research of Yakov G. Sinai. Invited speakers include:

The Mathematics Department Colloquium at 3pm on Friday March 17 will be given by G. Margulis, and conference talks will begin the next morning.

Social Activities

On the evening of Saturday March 18, Michael Jakobson will host a party. The conference banquet will be Sunday March 19 at 7:30pm at the Inn and Conference Center on campus, and the cost will be $50 (for graduate students, $25). Directions to these events will be provided at the conference.

IMPORTANT: If you wish to attend the banquet, we need to know your menu choice in advance. Dinner includes salad, rolls, dessert, coffee and tea; a cash bar will be available. Entree choices are:

• Chicken Diane: sauteed chicken breast served in a brandy, lemon, onion and dijon sauce.
• Pecan Crusted Flounder with a Crab Pecan Relish: flounder fillet lightly cooked with ground pecans, and dusted with cajun spices, oven-fried and served with jumbo lump crabmeat and chopped pecan lemon relish.
• Grilled Filet Mignon Balsamic Demi: 8 ounce barrel cut filet mignon finished with balsamic demi glaze.

Lodging and Travel

Travel support is limited, but traditionally we pay half the cost of a hotel room for each participant. Those who share a room with another participant stay free, while those who want their own room pay the other half.

The conference hotel is the Quality Inn and Suites, College Park.
NOTE: Please park only in designated spaces at the hotel to avoid towing charges.

To make a reservation from our block of rooms, do not contact the hotel directly; please contact the organizers at sinai-conference@math.umd.edu with the following information:

• Your arrival and departure dates.
• Whether or not you want to share a room.
• Preference for a smoking or non-smoking room.

The Maryland-Penn State Dynamics Workshop

This workshop has been hosted each fall since 1990 by Penn State University and each spring since 1992 by the University of Maryland, and is jointly sponsored by the two institutions. The Maryland meeting is supported by our Department of Mathematics and by the National Science Foundation.
