Please come for coffee and dessert on Sunday, March 24, 7:30-10 PM. Joe Auslander and Barbara Meeker 1634 R St.,NW Washington, D.C. (Phone: 202-234-9243) This is a red brick two story house, on the south side of R St., between 16th and 17th streets. Directions: By Metro from College Park: Take the Green Line six stops to U St.-Cardozo. Take the U St. exit (back of the train), walk south (on 13th St.) to R St., then west on R St. to 1634. This is a 12-15 minute walk. By Metro from College Park: A longer metro ride, but shorter walk: Take the Green Line as above to Gallery Place, then change to the Red Line, and take it to Dupont Circle. Leave the station at the Q St. exit (front of train) walk east (direction of traffic) two short blocks to New Hampshire Ave. (a diagonal street) left on New Hampshire to R St., right on R St. to 1634. This is a 5-8 minute walk. By Metro from the Hilton in Silver Spring: Walk from the hotel to the nearby Silver Spring Metro station. Take the Red Line to Dupont Circle, and follow directions as above. (Here the Q St. exit is at the front of the train.) Of course, when you are returning to Silver Spring, just "reverse the arrows". Driving: First of all, parking is possible but not trivial. From the university, drive south on Route 1, which becomes Rhode Island Avenue in Washington. You will first be in Northeast, and when you cross North Capital St., you will be in Northwest. Just after 6th St.,NW, make a diagonal right turn onto R St., to 1634. If you see a place to park after about 15th St., take it. From Silver Spring, take 16th St. south into Washington, and make a right turn on R St. We have two parking spaces for early arrivals. Ring the doorbell, and we'll direct you to them. If you would like to have dinner in the neighborhood, there are several good restaurants within a few blocks of our house. These include Italian Kitchen (17th and R, literally 30 seconds away), Frontera Cantina (on 17th next to Italian Kitchen), Trio (17th and Q), Sushi Taro (17th and P, one flight up), Luna, Bua, and Skewers, all on P St. just east of 17th. Another good choice is the Jewish Community Center, on 16th and Q (entrance on Q St.) Ask me about them if you want more information.
