MATH 431: Geometry of Computer Graphics (Fall 2004)

Instructor: Professor Paul Green

Class Meetings: MWF 9-9:50

Text: No text need be purchased for this course. Lecture notes, in the form of Mathematica notebooks are available at this link, and can be downloaded. They have been made available by Professor Garry Helzer, who created this course and has been the only other person to teach it. Also available at the same link is Mathreader a limited form of Mathematica, which will enable you to read the notes, but not to perform mathematical operations or view animations. You will need access to the full version of Mathematica in order to do some of the homework for this course, but it is available at sufficiently many sites on campus that you should not need to purchase it.

Syllabus

The following chart indicates the material to be covered from Professor Helzer's notes on a day by day basis, and the homework problems for which you are responsible on a weekly basis. The homework for each week is due on the Monday of the following week. You may hand it in as hard copy, email it to me as an attached Mathematica notebook or treat some of an assignment in each of these formats. In any case, you should make sure you will be able to solve straightforward non-graphical problems with pen and paper, since the exams will not involve a computer.

A word on the notation in the Syllabus: 1.3 refers to the third section of the first of Professor Helzer's notebooks.2.1.3 refers to the third problem following the first section of the second notebook.
