Text:  Calculus, by Ellis and Gulick, 6th edition
 

DESCRIPTION: An introduction to multivariable calculus. We will cover most material from chapters 11-15 of the text. Homework problems from the text will be assigned and discussed in class, but not collected for a grade. There will be at least 12 quizzes during the semester. No makeup quizzes will be given, but only the 10 highest quiz scores will be used in computing the quiz grade. There will be 4 Matlab assignments during the semester. Students are not assumed to have prior knowledge of Matlab.

Final Exam - Saturday, May 12, 1:30-3:30 pm, normal classroom, MATH 0101.   
Good sample finals are final exams for Math 241 from Spring 2006 and Fall 2006 on testbank.

Alternate Final Exam (only for students with advance permission)   Sunday, May 13, 1:30-3:30 pm, in ARM 0135.   For the alternate final you must bring your student ID.   Come early as checking ID's of all students takes some time.

Grading: Grades will be based on scores for 4 one-hour exams, Matlab assignments, quizzes, and a 2-hour final exam. The point totals are:

Makeup exams will only be given for legitimate, documented absences. Besides my office hours, there will be tutoring hours for Math 241. Tutoring is by graduate students who are TA's for large lectures of Math 241, and any students taking Math 241 are allowed to come in for help. The schedule is available on line at tutoring schedule .  

COMPUTER LABS: The Mathematics Department maintains a computer lab for use by undergraduates in Room 0203 of the Math Building. It is open M-F from 9am-6pm. There is tutoring available for students using Matlab for Math 241 at the WAM Lab in Parking Garage 2. Here is a link to the matlab tutoring schedule . • W 1/24 - I covered sections 11.1, 11.2, and 11.3.    Homework assigned is:  11.1: #3,11,13,15,19; 11.2:#1,5,9,15,27; 11.3: #1,5,7,9,11,13,19,23,33.  (As stated above, you will not be turning in homework, but I will answer questions about these homework problems at the beginning of class on Friday.)   The classroom is changed to MATH 0101, and the class limit has been raised so that everyone who was on the wait list today should now be added to the class.
• F 1/26 - I covered 11.4 and started 11.5.   Homework for Monday is 11.4: 1,5,7,9,15.    Exam 3 has been moved to Monday, April 9.
• M 1/29 - I finished 11.5 and 11.6.   Homework for Wed. is 11.5: 1,5,9,13,17 and 11.6: 1,7,9,17,23,27,29.   There will be a quiz Wed. covering 11.1 - 11.6. 
  
• W 1/31 - I covered 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3.   I announced that next Wed, Feb. 7, class won't start until 9:30.                   HW is 12.1: #5,11,15,19 and 12.2: #1,3,5,7,9, and 12.3: 1,13,17,23,25,29,31,37,43.
• F 2/2 - I started 12.4.   HW for Monday is 12.4: 1,3,9,11,13,15,19.   On Monday I will hand out a take-home quiz which will be due at the beginning of class on Wed. 2/7.  (Remember class that day starts late at 9:30.)
• M 2/5 -  I finished 12.4.   HW for Wed. is 12.4: 23,25,27,29,39.   I also handed out a take-home quiz that is due in class on Wed.  
• W 2/7 - I finished 12.5 and 12.6.   HW is 12.5: 3,5,11,13, and 12.6: # 1,3,11,13,15,25,27.
