P1: Discontinuous Galerkin Methods and Strand Mesh Generation

Author: Andrey Andreyev , Advisor: James Baeder (AE)

Problem Statement Presentation

Project Proposal

Abstract
For this project two separate algorithms will be implemented as part of an overall larger project of developing a Discontinuous Galerkin stand mesh solver. The two algorithms that will be implemented are a two-dimensional Discontinuous Galerkin flow solver over an airfoil and three-dimensional strand mesh generator. The two-dimensional Galerkin flow solver will be implemented on a regular two-dimensional structured airfoil mesh. The solver will be tested using existing data in literature based on experimental and computational results. A strand mesh generator will be implemented on a three-dimensional unstructured surface mesh. The project will be implemented in two parts. The Discontinuous Galerkin method will be implemented first followed by the strand mesh generation. This proposal will be divided into two parts corresponding to the project sections.
