WHEN : Wednesday, October 8, at 4pm
WHERE : Room 2300
TOPIC : "Extracting Meteorological Data from a Projectile Trajectory"
SPEAKER : KT Gurskie
ABSTRACT : This talk is based on a project that was part of the Industrial Mathematical Modeling Workshop at NCSU. The goal was to determine why adding noise to projectile trajectory data makes the inverse problem of finding wind velocity and air temperature unstable.
The Fall 1997 schedule for the nationally reknowned (check out Spring '97, Issue 9) WIM Graduate Student Seminar is as follows:
Wednesday, October 8 : "Extracting Meteorological Data from a Projectile Trajectory" (Speaker: KT Gurski)
Monday, October 20 : Speaker: Nicole Young
Wednesday, November 5 : Speaker: Mee Kim
Wednesday, November 19 : Speaker: Beth Arnold
Wednesday, December 3 : Speaker: Susan Garille
Unless notified otherwise, all talks last about 20 minutes and will begin at 4pm in room 2300. (Note: Cookies are provided at all talks.)

Spring seminar topics that are in the works include: "How to study for qualifiers" and a talk with graduates who were successful in their job search. If you have any ideas for talk topics, please e-mail WIM at wim@math.umd.edu.
