Beth Arnold (eaa@math.umd.edu)
to volunteer.
WIM Brown Bag Lunches

What We're Reading Now
Women in Mathematics: the Addition of Difference
by Claudia Henrion
(Indiana University Press, 1997)
The author's goal is to dispel myths surrounding our subject, especially
the myth that women can't do math. To this end, she interviewed Mary Ellen
Rudin, Fan Chung, and Karen Uhlenbeck (past vice president of the AMS),
among others. Part biography & part critical analysis, with chapter headings
like "Rugged Individualism & the Mathematical Marlboro Man", this book is
powerful.
Note: most books reviewed here (including this one) are available in MTH4204.
Please stop by if you'd like to check one out.
Read any good books lately? If you have something you'd like to suggest, please let us know! In particular, if you've got a favorite TeX book, please send us the title, author, publisher & a few comments for next month's newsletter.
