Welcome to the Women in Mathematics (WIM) Home Page - Updated page coming soon
Women in Math (WIM) is an organization at the University of Maryland College
Park (UMCP). WIM is dedicated to serving the needs of women mathematicians
at UMCP. In order to fulfill that purpose, WIM members have organized a
number of events. Two ongoing activities are monthly lunch get-togethers
and biweekly graduate women talks. We also have
an electronic newsletter for our members. This
WWW page is WIM's latest endeavor. It is our goal that this page will include
information or links to information in the following categories:
Pictures
are now available from the 2nd Annual WIM picnic held in June! It
was a great chance for students, faculty and staff from our department
to talk over sub sandwiches and watermelon.

(AWM) - This site contains information about the organization and its
history, downloadable membership applications, contact information for
all the officers, AWM Newsletter editorial and advertisement guidelines,
and information about ordering popular brochures. The site also has information
about the many programs and awards AWM sponsors for female mathematicians
at all stages of development.

& Pictures of Some Famous Women Mathematicians. - This is an on-going
project at Agnes Scott College in which students create on-line biographies
of various women mathematicians, past and present.

is a paper about Emmy Noether written in 1994 by Nina Byers of UCLA's physics
department.

Women and Mathematics (WAM) -
WAM is an advising and mentoring program whose purpose is to stimulate
interest in mathematics among all students, regardless of their career
choices. It is a program to motivate and inspire students, especially young
women, towards careers in mathematics, science, and technology. This program
is administered by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

4000 Years of Women
in Science - "This site lists over 125 names from our scientific and
technical past. They are all women! This site grew out of the public talks
given by Dr. Sethanne Howard, currently with NASA." The information includes
biographies, photographs, and references.

Archives of Women
in Science and Engineering - The Iowa State University Library inaugurated
its Archives of Women in Science and Engineering in April 1994. This new
archive was born from the need to document the history of women in science
and engineering -- their social history as well as the story of their scientific
achievements.

The Association for Women in Computing
(AWC) - AWC, founded in 1978, is a national organization that encourages,
promotes, and serves the interest of women in computing. The local chapter
meets monthly in the DC metro area.

Association for Women in Science (AWIS)
- AWIS, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., was founded
in 1971 to expand education and employment opportunities in science for
girls and women. Dedicated to achieving equity and full participation for
women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology, AWIS has over
5,000 members in fields spanning the life and physical sciences, mathematics,
social science, and engineering.

Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) - WiSE was established at Brown
University to address the issues faced by women who study the sciences.
It serves as a way for women to learn more about the opportunities that
exist in the sciences as well as the obstacles they face in academics and
the work force.
