Optimization applications abound in several areas of critical concern to modern economies. Indeed linear and discrete optimization has been successfully used to solve many real-world optimization problems. In this semester long RIT, we will focus on several novel and innovative applications of discrete linear optimization (i.e., combinatorial optimization) in the following areas. Health Care (e.g., efficiently matching kidney transplant donors and recipients) Auction Design (e.g., designing supply chain and sponsored search auctions) Network Applications in logistics and telecommunications (vehicle routing problem applications, deigning supply chain networks for disaster recovery). This RIT is intended for those who plan to conduct research in applied optimization. Pre-requisites: BMGT 830 and permission of instructor.
