This series of 3 lectures will survey recent progress related to universal behavior in kinetic models of coarsening in complex systems. The subjects of the individual lectures are: 1. Scaling limits and random shock clustering 2. Renormalization and universal limits of branching processes 3. Merging/splitting dynamics for animal group size distributions
