Welcome!

I am a Professor of Mathematics and the Math Department Chair at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am also the Director of the Brin Mathematics Research Center. I am a member of the Maryland BioPhysics Graduate Program and the Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Scientific Computation (AMSC) Graduate Program. I serve as the co-director of the NCI-UMD Partnership for Integrative Cancer Research.

I am an applied mathematician. My research focuses on biomedical applications of mathematics. I am particularly interested in cancer dynamics, drug resistance, immunology, imaging, and cell motility. Much of my research is conducted in collaboration with clinicians, experimentalists, and researchers from medical schools, medical research centers, and biology departments.

In 2013 I was named a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher by the University of Maryland. In 2014 I was named a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. I am also a Pauli Fellow of the Wolfgang Pauli Institute in Vienna. Previously I served as the Director of the Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling (CSCAMM). Before moving to Maryland I held positions at Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, the University of Paris 6, and the Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS), Paris.

This site includes information about my research and educational activities. I invite you to contact me if you are looking for advice or would like to discuss science.
