Adaptive Error Control and the Computability of the Lorenz System

Prof. Donald Estep

We will present recent work on adaptive finite element methods for ordinary differential equation, focussing on a posteriori error analysis and global error control. We will then apply the methods to the Lorenz system; both testing the error control and measuring the computability of solutions. Finally, we will use accurate computations to describe the dynamical structure of the Lorenz system.
