Internship Opportunities and External Financial Aid


The College page has a Career Services page which includes opportunities for internships, in particular the Corporate Scholars Program for summer internships which is aimed at possible future employees and offers the possibility of financial support and academic credit. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

  • Department of Homeland Security fellowships in science and technology (scholarship/internship package)
  • DEPARTMENT OF STATE . There are internship opportunities for a variety of majors with the Department of State. Most of internships are unpaid. In order to find out what specific internships are available and download the application form from the www site. DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1
  • NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY Several summer internships positions available. Positions vary in level and duties. To see what positions are available go to the web site.DEADLINE: TO BE DETERMINED
  • NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY COLLEGE SUMMER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM . Internships are being offered to math majors who are between their junior and senior years. Participants receive full-time work assignments for up to 12 weeks and receive pay.   • QUALITY EDUCATION FOR MINORITIES (QEM) NETWORK SCIENCE STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM . The 1999 Winter/Spring Term Science Internship provides an 18-week, approximately 15 hours per week assignment at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center, located in Greenbelt, MD, as well as a $3000 taxable stipend. Program runs from January 18, 1999 to May 21, 1999. Students will be placed in a programmatic area within NASA based on students background and major.   • JOHN F. KENNEDY- NASA . NASA sponsors a six-week Space Life Sciences Training Program that is conducted by the Kennedy Space Center and Florida A&M University. Participants gain insight into how space life sciences flight experiments are conducted, as well as explore current and future research opportunities. A stipend of approximately $25 a day is paid.   • LUNAR AND PLANETARY INSTITUTE- NASA JOHNSON SPACE CENTER . The Institute invites students in mathematics who have completed at least 50 hours of credit to participate in lunar/planetary research with scientists at the Institute and the NASA Johnson Space Center. The program runs for 10 weeks. Participants receive $350 per week and a maximum of $1000 toward travel expenses. Selection is based on scholarship, curriculum, and experience; career objectives and scientific interest; and a match between the interests of the applicant and available research projects.   • NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION, DIVISION OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATE (REU) SITES . Several sites have been funded by the National Science Foundation to hire undergraduate research assistants for summer. Research topics vary.   • TRADE INFORMATION CENTER The Trade Information Center Intern Program is an opportunity to gain exposure to the intricacies of international trade, including the export process, federal export assistance programs, and export promotion. The TIC is looking for candidates who possess excellent research and writing skills, computer literacy, and interest in international affairs and commerce. Students with skills in math and statistics are also encouraged to apply. Internships are unpaid, however degree credit can be obtained.   • SAIC SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM, HAMPTON VA This internship is affiliated with NASA Langley Research Center. Students will have an opportunity to work in a highly technical environment while furthering their professional growth in mathematics.   • PRINCETON PLASMA PHYSICS LABORATORY . The Department of Energy began the National Undergraduate Fellowships in Plasma Physics and Fusion Engineering to provide outstanding undergraduate students in US colleges and universities an opportunity to participate in projects in the forefront of research and development of fusion energy. The program is 10 weeks and each student receives a stipend of $4800 and travel expenses of up to $1000. Student housing provided.
