Welcome to my home page. I am a professor
in the math department of
the University of Maryland, College Park. I am also the Policy
Coordinator for Information Technology, aka faculty system
administrator for the department.
Here is the home page of the Atlas of Lie Groups and Representations,
including the atlas
software, and
our announcement about a calculation
the size of Manhattan.
Personal Information
Research
I study Lie groups and their representations. Lie groups (named after the
Norwegian mathematician
Sophus Lie) are
continous
symmetry groups, generalizing finite symmetry groups of
objects such as the icosahedron at the top of the page.
- Minicourse on computer calculations in representation theory, September/October 2002
- Representation theory
reading list: an extensive
bibliograpy of papers and books on representation theory.
David Vogan has given me his references.
[Like many websites, these lists are badly out of date now]
- Character tables of GL(2,q), SL(2,q), PGL(2,q) and PSL(2,q)
- Some of my preprints
- The AMS Electronic Journal
of Representation Theory
Other Local Pages
Some Organizations
Other Mathematical Resources
- Penn State has an extensive list of mathematical resources.
- The University of Tennessee
(Knoxville) list is similar to and overlaps Penn State's, but is
organized differently.
