What is PME?

We are the UMD chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Honorary Mathematics Society. We are the Maryland alpha chapter, meaning we were the first established chapter in the state of Maryland (1956). PME was founded on May 25, 1914 at Syracuse University in New York. PME currently has over 340 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The purpose of the society is to promote mathematics within the community, network with other students in math, and create a social and supportive group of like-minded math enthusiasts. It is open to any student who wishes to apply and is eligible.
Mission Statement: I solemnly promise that I will exert my best efforts to promote true scholarship, particularly in mathematics; and that I will support the objectives of the Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society.
We welcome all concentrations of math and highly aim for leaders who can drive the society forward. Our goal is to propel these leaders socially, academically, and professionally. We also emphasize service activities and social events to better our members, the UMD Math community, and local schools.
