Detailed Lesson Plan
and Homework Assignments

⇐ Back to the Main Syllabus Page

The plan for the classes is listed below. It will be updated as the semester goes along, so please check it regularly. (Sometimes the schedule needs to be readjusted because topics take longer to cover than I anticipate, or because of snow days or other emergencies. Latest update: Sunday, October 28.) You are responsible for reading the book as well as for going to class. Generally speaking, you should read each section of the book at least twice, once just before it is covered in class, and once immediately afterwards.

Note that we are covering Ch. 6-10 of [EG], except for a few sections: 6.6, 7.4, 8.5, and much of 10.3-10.5.

This class has both traditional lectures and smaller discussion sections. It is important that you attend both. The discussion sections will experiment with various formats, including group work, discussions, and having students work problems at the board. There will usually be a quiz once a week in the discussion sections, based on the suggested [EG] problems. The lowest four quiz scores will be dropped, to avoid the necessity of worrying about makeup quizzes. Quizzes and webassign assignments are not Major Grading Events.

Note: For checking your work in Chapter 8, The Integrator Website, or for that matter the Wolfram|Alpha phone app, is quite useful. However, it is not a substitute for learning to integrate on your own!
